Book Talk: Series’ I Won’t Be Reading/Finishing

Okay, so there are so many amazing series in existence and so many amazing books I’ve read but let’s be real, there will always be books we’re hesitant to read.  Especially when we’ve heard something that makes us uncertain whether to pick up the last (or last few books).  So here’s my list of those series’, for some I plan on reading more just not the final book others I have no interest in reading at all.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy  by J.R.R Tolkien

I just have no interest in reading these books… I know they’re well crafted and Tolkien made what is quote possibly the most well known fantasy world, but I just have no interest in reading them. Sorry Tolkien.

A Song of Ice and Fire Series (better known as the Game of Thrones series) by George R. Martin

I won’t be reading this series for the simple fact that there is way to much death and I will never have the sense of fulfillment when everyone gets their happy ending.  I simply cannot read a book/series if I know the characters don’t end up the way I want them too.

Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth

I love this series, don’t get me wrong, I read the first two books about ten times each in a matter of month in anticipation for the release of the final book.  And that’s where it all stopped.  Living in Australia I always seem to get re-orders last (yay for Tasmania!) and back then I was to innocent to think that anyone would post crazy spoiler filled reviews within the first week of release.  I was wrong, I found out the ending and now refuse to read Allegiant.  It sits on my shelf haunting me, but I don’t think I’ll ever do it.  I have my own ending and I’ll keep that dream of little FourTris kids running around Dauntless in my heart. #myshiplives

The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu

Okay, so I’ve only read the first book, and I plan on reading the second – eventually – but I’ve heard about the ending of the third book, Champion and I simply don’t think I could handle it.  As I said previously, I really can only read books/series’ where everything ends the way I want it too.   I’m sure there is some deep psychological reason behind this but whatever the case it’s there and that is why I won’t read the last book.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I loved the first book.  But I heard that after the first book the author decided she wanted the protagonist to end up with a different character and it was apparently a complete 180 for all characters involved, the original love interest was given a quick personality change and became a complete dick.  So I won’t be finishing this series.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

I haven’t read this series and I don’t plan too, I know how it ends and I know that Thomas doesn’t end up with the character I want him too and that the situation is never fully resolved other than a ‘wait it out’ mindset.  I just don’t want to read it. I might one day consider the first book, but I would never read on further.

Wanted by Kelly Elliott

I read the first book and loved it, I read the second book and it was alright, but now there are just so many other books that follow the other friend and their children in the future and I honestly don’t care about any of them, not even Ellie and Gunners kids.

Significance by Shelly Crane

Okay, so I’ve read the first four (plus a .5) books in this series and I seriously loved it, but the fifth book is about Caleb and Maggie’s daughter.. I just don’t think I care enough to read it, maybe one day I might come back to it, if I re-read all the other books first, but at the moment it’s a no.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children Trilogy by Ransom Riggs

I just don’t like this story or the premise for it, a bit too spooky for me.   I don’t do spooky.

Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver

I can’t quite remember why I decided to never pick up the second or third book in this series, I remember it was something to do with the whole HEA not happening thing or things just not happening the way I wanted the too, I guess I liked the first book enough but I decided to not finish the series.  I think it was because of a love triangle?

Hush Hush Series by Becca Fitzpatrick

I read the first three books back in grade ten and based on my Goodreads review loved them (I also faintly remember recommending this series to everyone and reading it in class?) but I never picked up the last book.  I have no idea why, but honestly I don’t think I ever will pick it up.  From what I can tell it goes in a direction I didn’t expect and I don’t want.  So yeah, won’t be reading Finale.

Fallen Series by Lauren Kate

I read the first book, it was alright, I have no desire to read on.

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

I will read the first three books (well finish reading I’ve read The Selection) and the bind-up of all the novellas but I won’ read the fourth or fifth books. I’ve heard that the protagonist is very unlikable and i just don’t like annoying characters. But I will definitely buy them simply for the gorgeous covers!

Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie

I’ve tried so many times to read this book and it’s just never going to happen. Ever.
