I’m still in my horrendous reading slump, I only just ended up reading anything in May. I still haven’t finished A Court of Wings and Ruin or any of the other books I dedicated myself to reading to push through this slump. The plus about all this is I’ve been drawn to Christian books, they seem to be the only thing I want to pick up. Which is a good thing, and a bad thing, since I’m particularly fussy about Christian YA. Anyway, here’s May’s wrap up.
Okay, this series has been a re-read (I read it for the first time in February) and it was honestly the only book in the past few weeks that I’ve sat down and read in one sitting (I read Prophet on the 29th while hanging around my TAFE campus, and Judge and King throughout that night and into the 30th). It is a Christian series but I personally think the ‘magic system‘, world and plot are all interesting enough and close enough to pass as fantasy that non-believers would also enjoy the series. It’s marketed as ‘Old Testament meets Fantasy‘ and though the countries and events aren’t historically correct there are certain phrases that indicate the story is set in BC. I just loved the series so much, especially through the first few chapters of Infinite where Ela is beginning her journey, a particular scene fills me with the Holy Spirit so much so that I begin silently weeping at His love. There’s so much to this series and as I said even if you aren’t a Christian this can be read as a Fantasy, and I highly recommend it. if anyone has read this series and has other YA Christian books set in a similar time/world (preferably with a romance or at least a thrilling adventure) please comment the titles below; my soul yearns for more stories like this.
She Walks in Power (Protectors of the Spear #1) by MaryLu Tyndall – ★★★★ – Young Adult Historical Christian Romance
Due to my current reading slump, I changed my Goodreads reading goal from 185 books to 150 and I fear I’ll need to change it again before the year ends to something closer to 135. I’ve literally only read 38 books this year, where in previous years I’d been reading 38 books in a span of two months. So yeah, it’s been a slow year for me. Fingers crossed I can push through this and get back into reading.
