It’s been a while.
I never announced it but I ended up taking a bit of a hiatus this year from this blog. I just wasn’t handling my time well, felt like I wasn’t producing posts that I was proud of or really enjoyed writing, and lacked inspiration. But I’m back and I have some announcements about changes to my blog and if you stick around to the end of this post there will also be some life updates.
To begin with, going forward I am going to focus on more adult content (and no I don’t mean porn). In 2019 I read a total of two YA fantasy books. TWO. The rest of the books I read in 2019 were either reverse harem or adult romance. So rather than try to push myself to read a genre that I haven’t been as interested in for the sake of producing content I’m just going to start creating content based on the books I have been interested in reading. At the beginning of 2019 I knew that my reading tastes had changed somewhat but because I wasn’t ready for my family or friends to know I was reading RH or smut I felt a little trapped and uninspired. But this year I’ve become more open about that, usually making jokes to my mum or my friends, but it was enough that I now feel comfortable enough to share online.
My goal in 2020 is to write at least one review a month. I know that doesn’t seem like a lot, but given I usually have to re-read a book to be able to write a review I’m proud of, and often need my Ritalin to help keep me on task, I think it’s a good starting goal. My overall aim is to get to the point where I can write a review a week.
As for the types of posts I’ll be making there are a lot of changes. In the past a majority of my posts were unboxings and monthly wrap-ups. I’ve taken to posting my unboxings and hauls on my Instagram (@bookie_becca) and really enjoy that more than how I used to do them here so going forward, unless I’ve been sent a box to review, all unboxings and hauls will be on my bookstragram. As for monthly wrap-ups, I think I’m going to retire that format in favour of another type of reading re-cap. I’m still deciding so you’ll have to check back in January to see what I decide to do 😉. I’m also going to be incorporating more gifs in my posts, a bit like how I used to when I first started, as I find them incredibly fun.
Since I’ve been out of the game for a while I’m not going to be setting myself up for failure by trying to implement all the other ideas I have for posts all at once, I’m going to start with what I’ve already mentioned and see how I feel later in the year. For now, I’m going to stick with a less is more mentality and while that means I may not be posting super regularly I’ll still be posting quality content on a schedule (hopefully) and I really hope that you stick around and continue to support me. Of course, I understand a lot of my followers are YA fantasy readers and that this new genre direction may not be to your tastes so I encourage those of you who are thinking of unfollowing my book blog to go check out my Instagram as a lot of my content there is still YA based.

So that’s all I have for blog updates but I thought I’d do a little life update and my personal goals for 2020.
I actually went through a pretty bad patch with my depression this year. I was just so low and I didn’t feel like doing anything, i’m feeling a lot better now but I put on a lot of weight, which didn’t help the depression and has made me incredibly insecure and since I’ve gone up a size in everything I ended up spending A LOT of money on clothes… Basically, it’s been a lose-lose situation. There is no upside. I started seeing a dietitian and have been implementing some of the things she recommended to me but it’s been difficult and is a slow process since the other people in my household aren’t following the same changes. But my goal for 2020 is to lose 20 kgs (which is like 44 pounds) through regular exercise (thank goodness for YouTube instructional videos) and healthy eating. I also want to try and save $10,000 (AUD) throughout the year, which given I only work 15 hours a week might be a little ambitious, but I want to try and cut down on my book buying and book box purchases and really start saving. I also want to leave the house and socialise more since at the moment I only really go out when I need groceries, go to work or hang out with my friends (which isn’t often). And my last personal goal is to write 50,000 words for a single story idea/draft. I haven’t written anything in SO LONG, and I have so many ideas that are cluttering up my brain, my computers sticky notes and my notebooks that I really need to do something with them. I’ll be sure to update every now and then about how my goals are going, fingers crossed I actually achieve some of them in 2020, unlike my 2019 goals 😅.
One last final thing before I sign off, I was thinking of doing a Q&A post in January just to help you guys get to know me and reintroduce myself. I probably won’t get many comments so I might do a combination post with a ‘Meet the Book Blogger/Bookstagrammer’ tag and a Q&A. Leave your questions in the comments below or on my Instagram!
Thanks for reading and supporting me, I love this community so much and can’t wait to see what the new year brings!
